Thome
I heard after the Childress news conference that the Twins signed Jim Thome to a one year deal. Not confirmed yet. There is the power the Twins need at DH. I hope he has something left in the tank like Favre had.

I think it would be a crappy pick up. Not that I don't like Thome but I want Kubel in the line-up every day. I think Kubel is by far a better hitter. Thome hits the home runs but do we also want his strikeouts? Not me. Five years ago I would agree to sign him but not now....we have worse holes to fill.

Tubes there some truth to that. Kubal strikes out 21% compared to Thome at 33%. 2009 stats. Thome will hit more homeruns. I guess it is the trade off. Whats more important? I don't know.

Sure hope this isn't the big signing of this off season. It does add depth to our bench. Kubel will still be the DH on most nights. We still need a 3B... I wouldn't mind seeing Cuddyer at third.
I sure like the look of this for opening day 2010. Give or take.. With Mauer now hitting for more power he sure fits the #3 spot now.
1. Span CF
2. Hardy SS
3. Mauer C
4. Cuddyer 3B
5. Morneau 1B
6. Kubel RF
7. Young LF
8. Thome DH
9. Harris 2B

I agree. You need to move Mauer down to the 3rd spot.

If you got a guy that is getting on base in the 2 hole.. Last year that wasn't happening much at all.

I forgot we traded for JJ Hardy. I updated my lineup with him in the #2 hole. If hardy can come back to how he was a couple years ago. This could be a very strong lineup. When is opening day???

I don't like it much either, he's over the hill and does strike out a lot.. 1.5M probably is a fair price, but I think we could do better..

Hog, You forgot Punto!
Kubel will still get his at bats for sure. I think they said about 90 games at DH and then you figure he will take a few games from Delmon in left.

This morning they were talking about trading Delmon Young for someone to play 3rd base.

What about average? Thome was once one of my favorite players to watch hit.

Add Hudson to that lineup and the twins might find themselves in the 2nd round of the playoffs this year!

Hardy will not be in the #2 spot he will be 7 or 8 guy.Thome is someone we need off the bench. Not everyday but when late innings come up and need a big bat. It's not Cassilia or Harris or Busher even Tolbert. Will be nice to have a legit threat off the bench.

Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh heh - and, uh, after that I just sorta space out for about an hour.
Da-uh? Space out?
Yeah, I just stare at my desk; but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch, too. I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work

That puts Hudson at 2nd and puts Punto at 3rd. Why must they ruin some good news by adding they will start Punto at 3rd

Was hoping this signing would put Punto on the bench. Not many teams have a 3rd baseman hitting below 200 and under 5 HRs. I thought that was a power position?
