Back from Crow Lake
Our family of 8 stayed at Crawfords Resort up on Crow Lake this weekend. Crow Lake is located about 70 miles north of I'Falls just past the town of Nestor Falls. Despite the resort being sold just two days prior to us arriving everything went well thanks to the new owners Kevin and Jean Nelson.
We arrived at the resort at around 10:00 Friday morning and did a little fishing near the resort. We had pretty nice weather except for the stiff breaze out of the East. We only caught 1 Laker bank fishing on Friday and it was around 3lbs. We also picked up two pike....one small one and one that was around 10-12lbs.
Saturday we made a run acorss the lake and did some bank fishing and trolling. Rain combined with the nasty east wind made fishing difficult in many ways. Bank fishing was tough and boat control while trolling wasn't a treat either. We did land two lakers in the morning before the wind picked up though. Mid day we headed back towards the resort and found a nice island protected from the wind. We set up there for a while and had some lunch. No fish though. We got back to the resort around 2:00ish and dropped most of the family off. My day, and the wife and I headed out to another island where we had some luck last year. There was a deep hole on the protected side of the island and we marked a lot of fish. No fish but we did get in a nice nap before the steak dinner.
Sunday a couple of us got up early and bank fished near the resort. We fished until about 9:00am but no luck. We packed up and headed for home. We ended up with 3 lakers and 2 pike for the trip. It was one of the slowest years ever up there but still nice to get out with the family and get some fishing in.
We talked to a couple other guys that had been trolling and bank fishing also. Slow was the report. One boat did catch a very nice Laker that was right around 11lbs. I will see if I can get a picture from the resort. Most of the fish we marked were at 40'-60'. Usually they are up a bit shallower but for some reason they were still down deep.
Crawfords resort was good to us as always! Nice resort with reasonable prices. For more info on them go to www.crawfordsresort.com. Crow Lake offers some awesome Laker fishing as well as Musky and Smallie fishing.
Here are a few pictures from our trip....
View from our cabin.....

Dad with a Laker around 3lbs.....

Myself with a Laker around 4lbs....

This was dinner on Saturday night. This was 2 smaller packages also.
4 people split one steak and me, my dad, and my bro-in-law each had our own. Tough to move after finishing one of these babies!!!

You know its a good steak when the Fillette is almost the same size as the Strip!!

Not everyone gets to be an astronaut when they grow up.

The new ownership must have went off with out a hitch.
I was wondering why the frisbee kept getting bigger. Then all of a sudden it hit me

Yea, things went well despite the new owners only having the place for a couple of days. They did a lot of work to get things set up for us and it was much appreciated!
Not sure what the water temps were. Ice went out mid week last week so I would guess high 40's to low 50's????? The graph on the boat I had didn't have a water temp reading on it.

Sounds like a good trip and I'm glad the new ownership change didn't end up like the mess I told you we went through!!

Sucks the fish didn't bite. The relentless east wind isn't the best for lake trout fishing or any fishing i guess. But glad you still had a good time.
The new owners at Crawfords are nice people and seem excited to take over. They have been working on this for at least 2 years. It was a long time coming.

Yea, thats what Kevin was saying this weekend. He seems like a great guy and I look forward to many more trips up to the resort. Was the new name Borel Bay Resort??? I saw it on Kevin's hat but I don't recall if that was it or not.
I might have you send me some of those tubes for bass fishing or laker fishing next ice season. Who makes them?
We usually do pretty good with an east wind but not when its blowing like that!

So you won the boat. Man those steaks look good.
I got a shotgun, a rifle, and a four wheel drive and a Country Boy Can Survive.

They did change the name to Borel Bay Resort. Kinda hard to get used to but change is good. And those steaks look pretty deadly.
Which tubes were those?

They were the glow tubes with the "bleeding" head on them.....right next to the cash register. You were probably busy filling out our licenses but they were the ones my wife kept asking me to buy.
