Nope. Ice out was yesterday and there was a boat out last evening. Mine will hit the water tonight.

The docks aren't in yet at French Park, but still got the boat out for an hour or so. The kids liked it. Weird weather on the water. The air was hot then cold then hot again. It's go time!

Medicine Lake?
What happened to Medicine Lake? Did the City or Lakeshore owners go and kill all the weeds?
When I was there in early June there were healthy weedlines in most places. Last night I found it to be all gone. The fishing was terrible. Maybe the front that blasted through yesterday had a little to do with it too. I caught one dink on a dock and that was it. Anybody else out there fishing Medicine recently?

Went out on Medicine on saturday for the first time in what seems like years. Anyways, I found out right off the bat that the crankbait bite is in full swing. The first spot I fished I picked up 8 Bass, 3 Walleye's, and 1 Pike on a DT16. I ended up picking up about 15 more Bass by the end of the day. I found that the north end of the lake was far more productive than the south end.

9/29/10 Medicine Lake Report
Air Temp: 69-74
Water Temp: 61.8-63.1
Wind: NW 10-20
Water Clarity: 1-3'
Presentations: 800 Series Reef Runner, #7 Shad Rap, 4" Storm SwimShad, 3" Gulp Minnow on 1/4oz Jig, and #9 Countdown.
Fishing Report: Got out on the Lake a little after 3pm and fished to 7. The first spot I fished which normally produces turned out to be completely dead. I then moved to a small point were rock meets weeds. I was able to pick up a 30" Pike and a couple 18" Bass. The next spot I fished I struck Walleye gold. I don't know how many Walleye's I picked up on this spot but I remember only one cast where I didn't pick up a fish. All of the Walleye's were 14-16" so they by no means monsters. The next few spots I fished I picked a few chucky Pike and three 18" Bass and I lost one Walleye that looked to be mid 20's.Last edited by MedicineMan; 10-01-2010 at 03:19 PM.

10/10/10 Medicine Lake Report
Water Temp: 66.4-68.0
Wind: Calm
Water Clarity: 1-3'
Presentations: #8 Rattlin' Rap, 800 Series Reef Runner, #7 Glass Shad Rap, 4" Storm Swimshad, 3" Gulp Minnow on 1/4oz jig, #9 Countdown, #10 Glass Husky Jerk, 3" Rippleshad on 1/8oz jig, and #6 Sinking Salmo Hornet.
Fishing Report: Got out on the lake around 1 and fished untill 6:30. The first few hours I was out there fishing was tough, I only managed a few small Bass and one small Walleye. Right around 4:30 the fished decided to turn on. I was on spot that kicked out 13 Largemouth (16-18") all of them were caught on 4" Storm Swimshad. The next spot I ended up catching 9 Pike. They were hanging tight to the weedline on a small rock point. Most of them were 3-4lbs but a few of them were 30". The last spot I fished I picked up a few 18" Bass right away. But then about 30 minutes before sundown the Walleye's moved in. I ended up catching 15 Walleye's, most of which were 13-16" but of few of them were 20+."We've been going about this all wrong. 11/7/10 Medicine Lake Report
Water Temp: 46.6-46.8
Wind: 5-15
Water Clarity: 6-8'
Presentations: 3" Gulp Minnow on 1/4oz jig, 2" Lindy Darter, 1/2oz Northland Buck Shot Rattle Spoon, #5 Rattlin' Rap, 1/4oz Beetle Spin, 4" Storm Swim Shad, #6 Sinking Salmo Hornet, #7 Glass Shad Rap, #10 Deep Down Husky Jerk, #9 Countdown, and 3" Ripple Shad on 1/8oz jig.
Fishing Report: Got out on the lake around 1:30 and fished untill 5. For the hour or so I just bounced from spot to spot looking to see if any of my normal spots were holding fish. All but one of my spots were completely dead. The one spot that wasn't dead had quite a few Walleye's on it. I decided to fish this spot for awhile. I ended up throwing everything at them but only managed one 15" Walleye. I then moved shallow and fished a gravel flat that had some patchy weeds on it. I had good success throwing Rattin' Traps and Beetle Spins along the weeds. I picked up a dozen Bass (most were 14-15") and 5 Pike (25-28").
I made a little video of that Walleye spot:

1/17/11 Medicine Lake Report
Got out on the lake around 4:30. I drove out to my spot and got set-up. I dropped my spoon down the hole and right as I close my bail my rod doubles over. Well after a few minutes of fighting I pull up a very fat 28" Pike. About ten minutes after I caught the Pike I picked up a 15" Walleye. Then at 5:30 the Crappies moved in. Not much size to them but they were willing to hit anything that moved. I fished untill 6 before having to head home."We've been going about this all wrong. This Mr. Stay Puft's okay! MedMan,
I’ve been off the grid from the fishing forums, seems like limited exchanges from fishing minnesota and IDO under different moniker, thought I would check out Angler Insider. I live in St Louis Park so naturally checked out the West Metro forum, happened to see the most recent post and recognized you from the other forums.
I have been hitting medicine for the past couple weeks – 5 times since the 4th of july with up and down success. I have been dabbling in the mornings on the weed flats with docks using chatterbait or senko and have plugged some decent fish (+18”) – but they aren't grouped. Been trying to hit the islands out there and between wind, skiers, and bass boaters, it gets a little challenging.
Monday evening of this week I hit island northeast of point coming out of “The Claw” (main basin, middle of sw shoreline area) dragging football jigs with a craw from 10’ – 22’ with no takers, worked the whole thing for the evening (90 minutes). Ended up fishing on top of it with jig-n-craw and t-rigged worms with only sunfish nips argh – but i was set on exploring and learning. And speaking of that I just drove around watching the lakemaster chip for structure and zigzagged about 20 times on a point area on the NE shoreline – halfway between hartys and french park. interesting extension but sun was going down and not able to fish. Graphed some hard bottom too so curious on that area...
Tuesday evening I got out and with the wind pounding from SSE, stayed in north arm. Fished weedlines and got a 19” on black/chart trigged worms out from edges of pads. later on found a handful of 2-3lbers in a tight area getting them on drop shot 3” black/blue dinger and black/blue 1/2oz jig and craw – all tight against the milfoil walls up there.
Last week when out it was a couple quick hits on top of islands but spotty with 1lbers and then a ~19.5”er – just random.
Anyway, thought I would share, I think I might have to try downsizing on the deeper edges, I remember years ago there was quite the success to be had trolling around with the smaller baits...
Couple general Medicine questions: are you typically seeing the bass in the deeper water (>18’) this time of year and with the heat? Are the bass randomly scattered around the islands or are there particular areas that group them more (ie "spot on a spot")? Been trying to find the "SOS" on these humps and still really struggling after all these years...
Maybe see you out on the water, will be out again tonight with my bro in a blue lund. Feel free to email at kroc0005 @ yahoo com and maybe we compare notes again.

7/21/11 Medicine Lake Report
Wind: SW 0-5 mph
Surface Temp: 84-86 degrees
Water Clarity: 1-5'
Presentations: Norman down deep 20' white/grey, Rollr Jig with pumpkin craw, carolina rig with 3" black/blue yum dinger, pop-r, senko
Fishing Report: Got out on the lake around 6:30pm and fished till 9:00 with my bro. First spot we fished got a 19" bass on the crank, and a few 30" pikers, good indication for what else was to come from the deep water. We moved to another area, fished deep water rocks and pulled in 3 pike in the area all over 34" with the biggest estimated around 38" - good lord! No hammer handles to speak of for once on these city lakes. Those pikers were on cranks and roll'r jig. Got a 16" bass on the rollr jig than too in the area and think we found a decent rock pile to revisit some other time. Really doing a lot of exploring of bottom content and finished the night along shorelines throwing poprs and senkos. We got about 4 more bass between 14-17" on these baits. Another night of continued learning!
Beautiful evening and fun time, the water skiers must still think the sun is baking out there as the lake was surprisingly not a zoo; shhhhhhh.... let's not let them know!

Surface Temp: 84-86 degrees
Water Clarity: 1-3'
Presentations: Norman down deep 20' white/grey, Rollr Jig with pumpkin craw, carolina rig with 3" black/blue yum dinger, pop-r, senko
Fishing Report: Got out on the lake around 6:00pm. First hump we fished we didnt get anything, throwing divers and rollr jigs. Because the morning had a heavy fog, we decided to check the shallow bite and hit some shorelines with senkos on docks and poprs. First set of docks we hit were the pontoon marina just south of french park access and got one dink. Moved to other side of the lake and that shoreline and got about 4 in the 13-14" range. Moved out to another hump with rocks along it and got a 19"er on the crank, and a couple more 13"ers on drop shot. Checked back on the first hump from day and got another 19"er however that was it. We finished the day moving to the weedlines near the french park access and throwing a tequila sunrise plastic worm on the weededge got two 15" bass. Tournament was out there that day and there were two 20lb bags brought in where guys were getting them on 10-14' weededges that had rock next to them on jig worms and drop shots. We must not have been in the right area! However, all and all not a bad day for us.

Took my mother out for a afternoon of fishing. We spent most of out time trolling spinners along weed points in 8-10'. Picked up about a dozen Bass, most in the 1-2lbs range. Also picked up three average sized Pike, one 18" Walleye, and numerous Sunfish."We've been going about this all wrong. This Mr. Stay Puft's okay!
