    Minnetonka Tournament August 4th

Our next Metro Fishing League event is on Minnetonka on Saturday, August 4th from 6 AM to 2 PM. We will meet at the Spring Park Bay public access. We have 5 boats registered to fish as of today and will accept additional entries through Thursday August 2nd. The entry fee is $50/team and must be paid in advance. See http://metrofishingleague.com/ for entry form and details if interested. 100% of the entry fees are paid out to the top 3 finishers (60/30/10%). If you think you and your partner can bring in 25-30 pounds of combined bass, northern, and walleye you might win this!

I do have a question that must me asked though... How do we get a fish verified on the water with Tonka being so big? Would an officer run 15 minutes to the other end of the lake/bays through the no wake zones to verify a fish? How will this be done if someone lands a huge pike or muskie?

We have verified fish on Tonka in the past without any problems, I know last year we verified pike and have other years as well. There are 3 officer boats that can verify. You do need to bring the fish to the officers to verify the fish. If that means it takes you 30+ minutes round trip to do so that is your call. If somebody did happen to get a 48" muskie that would be a different situation. If there wasn't anyone close enough to verify quickly, one of the officers will make a decision on the water via phone. Any of the 3 officers can make that call on the water once it is determined that the fish can not be verified safely. The officers will discuss this and make sure there is a plan in place should this happen. The first thing should be to call all 3 officers as quickly as possible to see if any are close enough to verify. If not, one of the officers will instruct you on what to do. Make sure you have all the officers numbers in either case. Anything else barring a huge pike should be able to go in a livewell long enough to get to a verification boat.

Yes, you must of been getting your fish or something. We drew the lake at the weigh-in at Sugar. It will be posted shortly I believe but the lake that was drawn was Green Lake in Chisago Cty. The 8 members that fished all events each submitted a lake into the drawing (teammates could not submit the same lakes as each other).

Teng, I posted the Green Lake event choice right after the Sugar Lake tournament on 7/16. See the main MFL forum. I also updated the rules to reflect the changes we made to the entry fees and payout, etc. Among the rules, you'll note that a legal muskie can be verified by any team, not just by officers. Other fish must be weighed and only the officers have the calibrated scales. If you can get a photo with the staple item proving it is over 48", we'd probably accept that if no one is close enough to verify it. Basically it's your responsibility though to find someone to verify your fish. If you run to the opposite end of the lake that could be a problem for you.

Didn't realize that was in the rules, that is good. So you don't need an officer to verify the length of a legal muskie. Any pike/bass/walleye that need to be weighed need an officer and certified scale. Those will fit in the livewell until you can make it to an officer. In the case of a big muskie, you need to call an officer for sure if there is nobody close to find out what to do. You'll need to call the officers anyway to see if anyone is close enough to verify first. If it's close to the 48" cutoff we may have some additional requirements. A photo can be difficult to show the length of a big fish. I doubt we have to worry about both a 48"+ muskie coming in and nobody being close enough to verify, but if we do we'll give you the decision on the water via phone. Just make sure you have the officers numbers.

Teng, 28.10 lbs plus species points (4) to win. The results are also posted on this site if you dig back into older threads. See you there next weekend. Are you going to enter the Green Lake event also? We have 4 teams for that one so far.

Teng, I see you're right about last year's thread. The results Rob posted are gone and the event photos which were posted don't show up either. The MFL website still has both though. There was an issue with the standings as Rob first posted them so they might have been deleted or changed.

For Green Lake you obviously don't need another application. Try to get your entry fee in a week or so ahead of time. The event is Sept 8th.

PS: the 35" northern in my avitar is from pre-fishing on Tonka for last year's event by the way.

ok. glad it wasnt just me having problems.. I will send the money as soon as I get to talk to the wife. we work different shifts, she, days, and me nights so we don't really get to talk much about this but I will try to catch her and see if I can do the event.

Oh, as for the pikes, I know where some big momma pikes live some pushing high 30's and low 40's and I know an area I can get plenty of 25-29's . Now I just have to find the Walleyes.
