7/19 Pelican Lake Report
I got out and fished Pelican last night for a few hours. The water level is almost perfect right now, most of the good wood is in least 3ft of water. Also, the pond weed has died off and there isn't much milfoil this year. It's actually easy to throw cranks this year!
I only had a couple of hours so the plan was to run and gun stumps and bullrushes. I only brought two rods, the jigging stick and my cranking rod. I used 1/2 ounce brown/orange jigs tipped with Berkley Crazy Leg Chigger Craws on 14lb flouro on the jigging stick and threw a craw colored KVD 2.0 on the cranking rod.
The action wasn't fast but I found fish in several areas. All of the places I found fish had rocks with either wood or rushes. I picked up 2 bass on the jig and another bass and a small pike on the crank. I also was cut off once on the jig. I didn't find any monsters but all the bass were decent with the biggest one going 19 inches.
The numbers of big fish don't seem to be there anymore but it's still a fun lake to fish. I know there are still some fish over 7lb in there so I'll be out chasing them for the rest of the season.Last edited by Brett Vegoe; 07-20-2012 at 12:00 PM.

Interesting report, Brett. I live fairly close to the lake, but don't have it in my sights.

Fishing continues to be excellent! All parts of the lake ice free as of earlier this week. Trophy walleyes still being produced from both the Rainy River and the lake. 5-12 feet over sand and rubble...
Fishing on Lake of the Woods- LOW...
