Crossing the Canadian border with a record....

just found out someone in our group has a record and worried about getting across the border... Anyone know what the guidelines are on this? He is talking to a lawyer about it and it's starting to look like he may not be able to come along... Anyway, I thought I'd see what I can find out... I know the DUI thing after 10 yrs., this isn't for a DUI.. not even sure what it is to be honest but wondering if anyone knows the general guidelines for what they do and don't allow across.. Even with a DUI you can get across if you pay from what I have heard, wondering if there are any options there.. he has a lawyer so hopefully they will sort through the legal mumbo-jumbo and figure it out.. just curious is anyone has personal experience with this.... I know what you're thinking and no, it's not Debner I'm talking about...

What I have heard is any felony or gun related crime and you are toast. I don't have one yet so it hasn't been an issue And DUI are 10 year I believe, but knock on wood I don't have personal experience with that.

I had heard that depending on what the charge is there a one time grace for crossing over and they are looking at changing it. The resorts and outfitters are pushing for a change because of the impact it has made on their businesses. It depends on what the charge is, in Canada a DUI/DWI from the states would be charged as a felony.

I think that it depends on who is working the station at the time you show up. Just for the record my one ticket was a rolling through a stop sign when I was 16...
