    Wood duck pics

These are from a couple weeks ago, I saw the two pairs 3 or 4 mornings in a row.. guessing they were looking for a nesting spot at that time.. not sure if they found one here or left as I haven't seen them again yet. There are a couple holes in the trees that the squirrels use but I don't have houses out and none of my neighbors do either. I will need to get a couple houses out for next year for sure. I didn't think they would use the pond by us for some reason, it's not what I would call ideal for how private of birds they are.. it's pretty easy access for kids and stuff, but maybe when they are nesting they don't care as much.. This is the first time I've seen them out here in 8 yrs of living here. Could have been around and I just haven't seen them, I know when we had them living in houses growing up you rarely saw them. Anyway, here are some pics...

yea.. yea... I saw your post awhile back and have thought about it for a few years but didn't think they would nest here for some reason.. now I know! I'll have a couple houses out next year for sure.. I still think they may be nesting here but I just haven't seen them since they settled in 2 weeks ago (or moved on).. there are a couple good looking holes in the oaks for them but the squirrels normally occupy those so I don't know how that would go.. they sure are pretty ducks and I'll be ready for them next year.. Will be a good project to get the kids in on, build some houses over the winter.. they will get into that..

I need to get mine out in the fall. I brought them up there a few years ago, but we don't get up to the property until after it's too late in the spring
I was wondering why the frisbee kept getting bigger. Then all of a sudden it hit me

All of my houses are full this year. There seems to be a lot of wood ducks in the area. One morning we had 14 in the back yard in the trees at once and only have 3 houses out. Also this year I had something happen that I have never had before. My neighbor was watching the ducks and a hen came in out of control and hit the house so hard she broke the roof of one the of the houses. Good thing he saw it and I was home. I climbed up and fixed it and noticed she had dropped a couple eggs already. She came back as soon as I got back in the house. She hit so hard there were feathers stuck in the bark of the tree above the house.
