    Exclamation Wood duck houses

It's time boys and girls to get the house cleaned out and add some cedar chips. Last weekend I cleaned out the 5 I have at home and added one more. 3 of the 5 had successful nests last year!! Heading up north tonight to get those cleaned out and ready for an early nesting year.

I will be doing mine today. I have already seen woodducks sitting in the standing water in the woods next to our house.

What makes them come find the house? I have a pond behind our home, but I've never seen woodies on it? I've thought about putting up a couple woodduck houses, but since I've never seen any, I just didn't.

I can't say exactly how they find them but I have always had ducks in my houses. The first year I had them out there were ducks fighting over them. I guess you just need to get them out and see who shows up. Hooded mergansers will use them for nesting as well.
