Lead core equipment

I am looking to get into lead core mainly to fish walleyes. Does anyone have and rod, reel and line recommendations?

I don't want to buy super expensive stuff nor cheap stuff.

I don't have the high end stuff and don't think you need it. I use an 8' downrigger rod that I got from Fleet farm $30. Doesn't need to be real sensative so you don't need high end. Just make sure its a down rigger rod to hold up to the force of hard pulling baits and heavy line. The Diawa accudepth 47 is a good real that wont break the bank and you can get 5 colors of lead core on them, plus it has a line counter which is handy when running lead core. The line again isn't real specific. I run the 18lb stuff in whatever they have at fleet farm. Hope that helps.

The daiwa combos at cabelas are decent for under around 70-80 bucks, just don't get the depthmasters series reels. As Nova said, a 47 size daiwa reel holds more lead than the 27 series. A 27 series will only hold 5 colors of lead while the 47 should hold all 10 colors in a spool of lead core line. Fleet farm has some decent combos as would most retailers or fishing supply stores. I prefer a two piece or telescoping rod at least 8 foot medium action rod to absorb the shock of trolling at higher speeds. Tie a small barrel swivel on the end of the lead line and ad a flourocarbon or monofilament leader of 8 feet for the river and 20 feet or so for clearer lakes.
