Results from Pelican
Well it was a tough day of fishing, we tried throwing everything in the tackle box at all different types of structure with not much success. I believe 2 out of our 3 bass came off of spinnerbaits and the 3 rd of a jig.
1. Rob and Brent 5.4 lb
2. Travis and partner 5.2 -- big fish a 3.5 lb pike
3. JohnWayne and Drew 2.35
4. Dan and Steve 1.85
5. Kschell/ Dad 0.00
Thanks to all who showed up to fish. Would have been nice to see or at least hear from some teams who said they would show since we switched from the river.
Next event is scheduled for O'Dowd of the 14th of Aug. According to some different sources the access might be closed. We are checking this out and will post in the near future if there is a lake change. We are hoping to keep it at O'Dowd.

weights were very surprising. was an extremely frustrating day for Brent and I. we did boat one fish that was about 10". I couldn't believe we couldn't entice a pike to pike when we were throwing spinnerbaits tipped with sucker minnows.

Sorry I couldn't make it guys. A really good friend of mine mom had passed away at 1:30 in the morning and I thought that was a bit more important to help him threw the tuff time then fish.

Wow, was that a tough day! I know that lake has many and mighty fish from all the reports....but we've always had a tough time there.
Thanks to those putting on the event!
I'll keep my eye on the O'Dowd landing and post.

We could not figure anything out and tried just about it all, I will have to still try that lake again since Ive heard so many good reports on it, so much for beginers luck on a new lake. Thanks to those that put it on and I will have to see what the weekend for the next event looks like as it gets closer

It would be a shame if they drained that trophy fishery
I was wondering why the frisbee kept getting bigger. Then all of a sudden it hit me

Could be the milfoil in the lake now.
Eurasian watermilfoil found in Wright County’s Pelican Lake
(Released July 15, 2010)
Eurasian watermilfoil, a nonnative invasive plant that crowds out other aquatic vegetation that is more beneficial to fish and wildlife, has been discovered growing in Pelican Lake, in Wright County, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today.
The plant was discovered during a lake vegetation survey in June. Pelican Lake, one of the state’s 44 designated wildlife lakes, is the first designated wildlife lake found to be infested with Eurasian watermilfoil. The other most common plant found in the lake during the survey was another nonnative invasive plant, curly-leaf pondweed. Historically, Pelican Lake had abundant native aquatic vegetation that attracted both breeding and migrating waterfowl, but high water levels and excess nutrients over the last 20 years has decreased native vegetation abundance.
Although it may not be realistic to completely eliminate Eurasian watermilfoil and curly-leaf pondweed from the lake, the DNR expects that future water level management plans will discourage growth of these exotic plants and encourage growth of native aquatic plants that provide better fish and wildlife habitat. In other states, water level management has been effective at managing exotic vegetation in lakes. It is also a proven tool to improve native vegetation abundance in Minnesota shallow lakes.
“Hopefully, as we manage the lake, conditions will improve” said Fred Bengtson, DNR area wildlife manager. “The lake gets a lot of use by both fisherman and waterfowl hunters, so it is important the public be aware of the presence of these plants so we can prevent further spread.”
To help stop aquatic hitchhikers such as Eurasian watermilfoil, boaters are urged to be extra thorough when looking for and removing aquatic plants from their boats, trailers, nets, anchors and other equipment before trailering them. It is unlawful in Minnesota to transport water from infested waters, aquatic plants, and prohibited invasive species on public roads or to launch watercraft with them attached. We have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it.

There's been milfoil in there for at least a couple years. That's just how slow the DNR sometimes can be.

yea the lake has a lot of milfoil.. the weeds weren't as bad this time around, but the wood and a lot of areas are still really tough to fish.. will get better later in the year..
we had a really bad start to a horrible day of fishing.. my prop was banged up from Tonka so I put on my spare and didn't have vent plugs correct so we couldn't get up on plane without the prop slipping... I didn't bring any vent plugs so we were pretty well screwed.. We went back to the landing and tried plugging the holes, but that didn't work.. so we couldn't go up on plane and were limited to 8 mph all day
... that was a bad start to a horrible day.. would of liked to try some spots, but ended up fishing a lot of new water closer to the landing.. fish were as tight lipped as I've ever seen on that lake though.. I think the storm that came through Friday night turned everything off. the panfish weren't evening hitting the jigs. The last time I was out a month or so ago you couldn't go 10 casts without losing a claw.. pike must of been really off too.. we didn't fish them much, but my Dad tossed a spinnerbait while I was pitching for bass and didn't get a bite..

Results from Pelican
Our two came in the first 45 minutes or so. We were pumped that they were hitting that well and figured we'd be culling by 8am. The the light switch tripped and not a single fish the rest of the day. Tried EVERYTHING on every area of the lake and just couldn't get anything else to even hit. 2 hits for 2 fish. Had one miniature guy come up at the top but he missed by a good 6 inches- was REALLY small anyway. By about 11am we were wondering why we ever wanted to make these 8 hour events! Better hopes for O'Dowd.

Results from Pelican
Just got back from a camping trip and saw the results. I was hoping some big fish would be brought in. I'll need to keep an eye on it for a few weeks to see if we should have the Piggy Classic there in Sept.
The guy previously known as "Pigslayer".

even with the tough bite it was a fun day on the water and it was great to meet some new folks and see others i had not seen in a good while.
I was a bit worried that it was going to be a bad day when i slept through my alarm and woke up in E.P at 5:20.... but in the end it wasn't just my luck that was bad....

Sorry to hear about the results but I feel a bit better about my results - I was out there from about 10:00-2:00 with my daughter trying for some pannies and later for some bass and never got the skunk out of the boat. Not even a sniff. Misery loves company I guess....
Was not sure what group was huddled up together in the center of the lot chatting - now I know....“The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first and love of soft living and the get-rich-quick theory of life.” - Theodore Roosevelt
