    Sucker Report!!!

The run is on! I had my first sucker client yesterday and he bagged 6 suckers in a few hours. 3 guys across the river caught a bunch the day before. Temps are suppose to hold in the mid 60’s this week so they should still be going strong for a couple more weeks!

Is that at the Pine? Tyler and I have been fishing every day he has had off and havent caught anything. Whats the secret?? Quick question: My dad used to fish suckers with two hooks...illegal or legal??

For those of you who fish the pine, is there perch or something in there? We seem to get nibbles within seconds of our line being in the water, and we set the hook and there is nothing there...everyone else around us either seems to be used to that or it doesnt happen to them so I was thinking maybe suckers but I havent got a single one.

What kind of sinkers and hooks do you use?? And how long do you let the pole twitch before you set the hook?

Oh and no it wasnt the Pine river , it was the sucker hole !!!, as for hooks we were using just regular hooks and egg sinkers , nothing special

I'm guessing you might have missed them on the Pine....if they are already running this good further north.

Is the current still decent? If so, your sinker might just be rolling/settling on the river bottom. Otherwise it could be shiners, chubs, or perch. Also, suckers will often time hit your line and it looks like a bite.

Depends on the amount of current. I like a barrel or egg sinker in heavier current. In light current I go with the least amount of weight possible. I watched a school of them while I was wading the St. Louis river...they suck in the bait and spit it out several times. Sometimes they fully take it and just about pull your rod in and other times they keep spitting it out. Catching them is sometimes pure luck.

Correct, 1 bottle of boones farm IF it's strawberry hill. Any other flavor it's two bottles. I have the two local bars competing for my business. Discounted Boones Farm at one place and $1.00 off drink tickets at the other.

How far north were you fishing? We hit the pine again yesterday and we were about the only people there so Im thinking you might be right on missing them...out of us I am the only one who caught one, and it was only one. We fished for a few hours in the afternoon and another couple hours in the evening. A few nice bites but nothing.

We were about 45 minutes north. If you can find another sucker hole further up river...you might be able to catch up with them. I think this odd spring has drawn out the run a bit and there are smaller schools instead of a couple of big runs like the last couple of years.
