Nice Brookies!
I had some free time Sunday morning before running to my nephews baptism and the Vikes game so I called puzzler up to see if he wanted to go try for some trout in WI.
We struggled for the first couple of hours and finally figured these buggers out in our final 40 min's.
I lost a couple and caught 1 bass and puzzler caught these 2 dandies.
He was pretty pumped as he had never caught a trout so he was delighted to tie into these guys
Might run out tomorrow evening and give them a shot again.

Must be a stocked put and take lake though as streams are all closed. It's great to see some of those put n take lakes doing good. And yes they are so tasty. Melt right in your mouth. I've never done it because the seasons don't really match up but i've had dreams of grouse and brookies on the same table. That would be the ultimate IMO.

Thanks Hoyt 4. You need to get out there for the open water as well! However the fight through the ice is a lot better I must say.
Pete, How do you prepare them? I have only smoked them thus far and they are quite tasty! I would be interested in any other ideas you have from what sounds like a legendary list of recipes! (I recall post's of people raving about your cooking)

I'm sure they are good but IMO smoking brookies would be like smoking lobster tails!!
Gut and gill em. Roll in flour and pan fry in butter with a little salt and pepper. My grandma always showed me they are done when the eyes turn white.
Peel the skin off and pick the meat off the bones and it just melts in your mouth. Your mouth doesn't even know there are flakes in the meat. Its just so tender and moist. My other favorite is just a little salt and pep with a few tiny slivers of onion and lemon in the body cavity and grilled. Make sure you put some non stick spray so the skin doesn't peel off on the grill or use a grill basket. YOU MUST try it. I'll give you some salmon to smoke if you promise NEVER to smoke brookies again! Anything but brookies.:
