    A short season

Went to the field where I seen some birds in a couple of days ago. I was hoping that things would go better this year there because this was the same spot that a Gobbler dupped me at a couple of years ago.
As it started to get light out a heard a couple distant gobbles and then one near by, but I could'nt get him to respond to the call. About 5 minutes later I hear another a little further out from the closer one and I gave him a call and he gobbled back instantly. After about the 3rd or 4th one it sounded like 2 of them. Sure enough, after about 5 minutes of yelping back and forth I had 2 Gobblers coming towards the decoy. They finally stopped at the tree line about 25 yrds away and just stood there struttin and showing of, the only problem was that there was a heavy clump of brush and a tree that they were behind not giving me a very clear shot at all. After about 10 minutes of this going on the lead bird finally made his way towards the decoy ( about a foot), but that was all I needed to get a shot of.
Sunrise was at about 5:30 and bird was down by 6:30. Short and sweet, I'll take it!

Now I think tommorow I will go out with my cousins boy and see if we can put him on a bird!
When I tell my wife that I am going fishing for just a half a day, I automaticaly assume that she knows that it is for 12 hours.

I Know tell me about it. After I shot my bird I drove to were my cousin was hunting and we worked on a gobbler there, but not going to happen I guess. Then the day after we went back out with cousins boy to try to get a bird for him, but they did'nt get there till about 6:45. we got a couple birds to sound off, but they would'nt come in, only a hen. Already looking forward to next spring, might look into going to some other areas also. This Turkey hunting is a blast!!!

    BLB,
I got my bird in Princeton, but my cousin was hunting our property in Big Lake. We had one gobbling on the other side of the poplars, but he would'nt come in, I think he was henned up!

    Hoyt,
    Good luck in Wis!!!
