    NW WI w/e Report

Went up to NW WI to fish a little this past w/e. Sat morning was as cold and windy as I have ever seen on the lake in the winter. It was blowing across 2500 acres of lake right against the shore I wanted to set up on. I hadn't put chains on the wheeler yet and was getting blown around pretty good with my shack hooked to it. Luckily I had some ice anchors with. Set up on some weed lines about 10 am with some tip ups and live suckers and shiners. You had to keep them cleaned off every 10 minutes even with hole covers on. I ended up moving them about every hour or so but only picked up a couple small pike. Around 4pm we started picking up some walleyes, had a good run at dark then one an hour until we left at 9:30. Luckily, we pulled out a small perm shack to start a fire and get out of the wind- so we could take it for the evening bite. Nothing big and about 6 eyes. Largest probably was 19''.

Sunday morning it was 11 below and forcasted a couple inches during the day. I was going to try out a small private lake but decided it wasn't the day to hole hop and scout out a new lake. So I wimped out and went back to my buddies little perm. It started snowing hard around 10 am. And that's when I got my first fish (eye) of the day. A couple more pike up to 25'' and another eye. About 10 more in the 'golden hour', one being 24'', and one jumbo perch. A few took a buddy's jigging rap but all the other fish were on shiners. Many of the walleyes were on weed edges in less than 4' of water. Some sets were out to 10-11' but weren't as productive. Got a few pics when the camera wasn't frozen and was still working.

Glad we decided not to go out Sunday. Fishing is supposed to be fun isn't it? We'll get them next time.

Yeah it was a rough one. Had to keep the skin covered up thats for sure. The roads were absolutely garbage last night and this morning too. Ice was about 6-8 inches.

Hog- YES it was worse than red. Plus no traction at all on that slippery ice even with creepers.
