Prop on 150 VMax
I'm looking for some help with suggested prop pitch on a 2001 Yam V Max 150 out board.
I recently purchased a 2001 Lund Tyee 1850. After taking it on it's maiden voyage to KY lake crappie fishing, I'm not happy with how long it takes to get on plain. It's a typical Tyee but it does have a Yam T-8 4-stroke kicker motor also. I realize this may be a heavy boat to get up and out of the water, but the RPM's at WOT is app. 4900 the manufacture recommends 4500-5500 My top end with 3 guys and all our gear was 54 mph. I would like to loose a little top end to gain a quicker hole shot. I bet it takes 8-10 seconds to get the bow down and on plain!
Does anyone have a similar boat package that can give me there prop size and pitch? Or is there someone knowledgeable about props that can give me your opinion? Currently it has a SS Rapture 14.25 x 21 prop.
By the way KY lake crappie fishing was good. app. 70 keeper fish caught with the biggest a 16+ inch. 2 lb 8 oz silver. It's my biggest to date and being mounted.

I had a 23 pitch on my last 150, but not as heavy of a boat. I'd think if you are only turning 4900 you would want to drop down some more to get up closer to the 5500.

I have a 150 also. It is on a Ranger 18' Bass boat. The prop I have on there is a 4 Blade Renagade 13 1/2 x 23. It pops out right away. Top speed of 62 mph...Fully loaded around 58-59. Different boat but, Maybe it will help a little.

Yeah I had a 150 Evinrude on a Stratus 178 Vindicator bass boat that would just pop out of the water too with a top speed of 62-66. I realize this Lund is a whole different animal but there's gotta be a better option. Theres gotta be a prop that will give me a top speed of 45?? and get out of the water at a "typical" time. I don't think the 150 is undersized, it's gotta be a prop issue. Come on Lund guys what set up do you have?

Why never mind Jarhead? I'll call anyone if it's recommended, location isn't a problem. I assume he's in MN correct?

Randy I have a 1850 fisherman with a 150 yamaha 4 stroke and the pitch on the prop is 14.25x20. It seems to get up on plane no problem and has top speed of 45

I can't remember the inch but I have a High Five SS 19 pitch on my 175 Merc, my boat is a ProV 1890. If I really get on the throttle from a dead stop, I churn quite a bit of water but it comes on plane pretty fast. Top end with 1/2 tank of gas or less on flat water, over 70 mph using the GPS as a speedo.

Fishing continues to be excellent! All parts of the lake ice free as of earlier this week. Trophy walleyes still being produced from both the Rainy River and the lake. 5-12 feet over sand and rubble...
