We tried!
A friend of mine and I took our 4 boys (ages 6 - 9) up to our shack for some ice fishing this weekend and ...well we survived anyways
. We hit a lake west of Cromwell and discovered no one else on it on Saturday. We set up over a 20' hole with a sharp break and I started marking a ton of suspended fish on the LX-5. Most were coming in at 10' - 15' and wanted nothing to do with anything I offered them. I tried plain hook with waxies, crappie minnows, small shiners, and minnow heads with nada to show for it. Also tried just about every jig and lure in my box. Did have a couple of fish on but nothing up through the hole. When we left our shack Saturday morning at 10:00 it was 24 degrees, by the time we got back at 8:00 pm it was -12. I talked with the guys at the bait shop in Cloquet and they had only heard of limited action on Sophie and that was it. We didn't even make an attempt on Sunday, opting instead to take the guys to the aquarium in Duluth instead. Hopefully the weather gods will be a little friendlier next time out!

It's still gotta just be nice to have a father-son weekend away from the rest of the world. So what did you break, what went down the hole, and how many insurance claims came out of the weekend?
I was wondering why the frisbee kept getting bigger. Then all of a sudden it hit me

Igot it, but not until I was in Blaine on Sunday!
Man I do love my cell phone service. The aquarium was fun for the kids. They had some scuba divers in the deep tank that the boys got a kick out of and I almost had them convinced that the giant Pout in the lobby was real!. I asked at the bait shop about that lake I asked you about and they had never heard of anything out of there either. Might have to try it sometime before ice out....
They did have a nice pic of a 26# Pike someone pulled out of a small farm pond near Mahtowa though!

The weekend was event free, smart asp!!! The kids even tried out the sauna!

Did I just read that Rosco had a weekend that wasn't a disaster??? better mark this one on the calendar boys!
Stupid people are like slinky's both are pretty useless, but make ya smile when push them down the stairs

Glad to hear nothing eventful happened, except the fishing. Good to get out with the boys though, and make use of the time either way.

Rosco, good to hear ya got the boys out on the ice. Some quality time with the kids is a good deal in itself. How did they like the sauna?
