Big sandy report 1-31 2-1
1 Attachment(s)
Well after work on Saturday Jason (johnwayne) and I had plans to chase some gills and slabs up on BSL with crappie Keith. Started off REALLY slow Sunday. Lots of dinky perch and we drilled holes all over the place. Marked fish in the deeper holes but it didn't matter if you upsized downsized, jigged, raised, pushed, or dead sticked it they were in no way interested. Ao we found a nice break along shore going from 10-22 feet and set up right on the bottom edge hoping they would swim up and down the ridge.
Sure enough after 5 min we LIT into the crappies and gills! Jasons face lit up and he had a little struggle without a spring bobber but we got him into some fish. I landed a personal best 10 1/4" bluegill and I'm happy to say she's swimming around to be caught another day. We didn't keep any fish last night we let go 15-18 gills from 8-9.5 inches. There's definitly satisfaction on releasing beautiful fish. Had Keith set jasons rod up with a spring bobber last night and tied up a few of THE jig and Jason was set. Ate some steak and hit the lake again at 7am and as soon as we set up w were on the fish! Hour into it it slowed down. Punched about 50-70 holes and started hopping around. Jason was on fish all day as was I but I was warmer cause I was in the house lol. Weekend ended up that I set 2 personal best 10 1/4 gill caught on JR's smallest white uv jalepeno tipped with euro and a 13.5 personal best crappie caught with THE jig with no live bait on it and it's ALSO living till another day. Jason set his PB crappie at 12" and PB gill at 9". Took home 20 crappies 10-12.5" 15 perch and 15 gills 7.5-9". Much thanks to CK for all the hospitality. Place to eat and sleep and fun conversation. We really appreciate it. Pics will follow once they r uploaded! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Nice to see you break that 10" mark! Now get to cleaning

Sounds like some great fishing!!

Nice work guys.
I know there was a big difference in catching sun afternoon/today compared to fri/sat. My dad just killed the panfish after I fished for a day and a half at his shack in WI. Did get a 7 and 10 lb pike and a couple nice eyes between a couple of us and a few other smaller pike but it was SLOW- especially on the gills and crappies. |
Nice fish and glad to hear the big one is still swin n

Great to be able to have you Tim!
Also...those PB's are awesome....Don on Sat. caught a pb gill...11 inches. Plus there were a few other pb's last weekend. It was great to see John Wayne switch gears and catch fish at a pretty good rate. The other Jason and I tagged 151 today and what a day it was! Looking forward to getting those pics! |
What a weekend... A blast, to say the least. 3 PB's for myself, and two for Tim. Sunday was a bit slow throughout the mid-day, but tons of action all day Monday. Great to learn some new techniques- I used THE jig exclusively on Monday and brought up an easy 50+ fish. Some big slabs (all that are swimming again) and a nice bucket full of good sized fish for eating. Truly a beautiful thing to watch all those quality fish come up one after another! Spent a couple hours cleaning them all with Tim last night and will be feasting on them for a WHILE! Again, thanks Keith!

Great to hear you guys on fish. CK always aim to please.

Congrats on the new SOLO Chris!!!
|
Looks like fun and congrats on the PB's!

I aim to get you on quality fish....that's all there is too it. It's a gas to see a guy catch a PB. Just watching him light up is a great pay off. The bonus was with you guys releasing those bigger fish!
There's this thing called "getting deadly" and when you are there's got to be some responsibility in protecting what is now so easy to catch. You guys do a great job of that and what a standard you will set by showing others to CPR. Did I tell you that the tullies are hitting...gonna switch gears soon. Working slabs on the bottom and working tullies suspended...what a busy time on the ice! |
Always nice seeing some PB fish caught.. Congrats guys!
