  1. Smelt

I would like to try smelting this spring on the north shore and was just wondering if anyone does it and how do you do it? Some of my dorm buddies in ely went last year and came back with bags of them and they were delicious. Thanks for any help!

  2. Fishing the North Shore for salmon

Just wondering if any have been out yet? I'm thinkin about giving it a try on Thursday if the weather permits. The rain over the last week should've jump-started the fishing in the rivers, and from what I hear people are seeing a good number of fish.

  3. Lake Michigan Salmon Run 9/25/06

Was able to get out to port yesterday afternoon with Rich and we both ended up with one big king salmon each and we both missed a few other fish. The run seems to be in close to full swing and I can't wait to get out there again. Here are the pics of the Kings.

  4. Lake Huron in Trouble

This is bad news, especially since Huron was the only Great Lake that has/had a great Atlantic Salmon fishery. From the Detroit Free Press: Lake Superior is big, clear and beautiful, yet in terms of fish production it's a near desert compared to the other Great Lakes. Now fisheries...

  5. Pond is still producing Lakers

While I haven't had a chance to get up there in the last week or so, I checked with some "sources" and the DNR page and the fishing is still decent. The Lakers are mostly out in deeper water yet, fattening up for the spawn in October. The DNR creel survey says that 3-5 miles out from the pumphouse...

  9. Question Trolling in the Great Lakes.

I live on the West Coast and Salmon Fishing goes for another few months. How long will it generally last in your area. I also have heard the limits are different. In Oregon most areas are a 2 Salmon limit with no more than 1 being a King. We can use only 1 Rod :chin: at a time. I hear in some...

  25. Alaska river salmon line choice

On the rivers in Alaska, do you use the super braid line, fireline or stick to mono? I would think fireline would hold up better in the rocks and stuff, but I would also think you'd need the strech of mono to play those powerful fish. What is your preferrence? I am leaning towards 17lb. mono right...
