Maybe this is something everyone already knows and I am just way behind in the game, but this weekend we were fishing a few remote lakes up by the farm and ran into several "Dispersed Camp Sites" in the one of the state forests. I wanted to know if there was a way to find all of them, so I emailed the DNR and found out that pretty much any state or national forest is open to dispersed camping with a few exceptions and rules. Here is the email I got in return from the DNR, along with the websites they sent me.

Jeff,
Dispersed camping can be done in any of Minnesota's State or National Forests. There are only a few State Forests that have actual dispersed campsites, i.e., Big Fork, Grand Portage, Bowstring, Koochiching, Land O'Lakes, Pat Bayle, Pine Island State Forests. Other than for those campsites, you can set up your own campsite anywhere as long as you are at least one mile away from a fee paying campsite or day use area.

The rules for dispersed camping can be found at the following legislative website address:

https://www.revisor.mn.gov/rules/?id=6100.1350

Information on State Forests can be found at the following link on the DNR website:

http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_forests/index.html
The herd is looking amazing this year at the cabin. With 3 sets of fawns that are back there on a daily basis. Around 15-18 seperate does coming and going. 3 different bucks no shooters yet but they will be pushed in there once the rut kicks in. It looks I am in for a good season though!

I finally got to pick up my new boat on sat and I decided I would break it in on ML. I put 2 trolling rods with leadcore and a few cranks and took the family out just to run the boat and make sure everything was working. We started trolling out by 4 mile gravel and it wasn't long and we brought a 16" eye in the boat. We fished for 2 1/2 hours and had 4 eyes for a fish fry and released about 8 more. Trolling firetiger color cranks between 1.8- 2.2 mph in 26-31 fow.

Monday I took a buddy out and hit the same area. The bite was about the same and we brought back 5 eyes for dinner. Both the firetiger and blue chrome cranks produced fish.

Biggest eye of the weekend was 18.5". On a side note I noticed on both days that we would catch more fish trolling into the wind rather than with it.

I was able to make the annual Lac Seul fishing trip this year after missing it last year with the birth of my daughter. The weather started out great the first part of the week but then got windy and rainy by the end of the week. We had good fishing again this year. Walleye action was consistent despite the changes in weather. Lots of nice walleyes this year with a good number of fish over 20". Nothing over 27" this year but a decent number of fish in the 25-26.5" range. The pike fishing was decent at time but not as good for bigger fish then in years past. The weed growth was down in many areas this year which I think contributed to not as many big pike being shallow. We also got onto a bonus school of smallies one morning which was a nice surprise. Here are some pics.

while the league wrapped up about a month ago with what ended up being our best event of the year out on Sarah. The league struggled some this year with only three teams fishing all events. We, as officers> struggled some also this year by having to make some decisions on lake and some other decisions to try to entice a few more teams to fish each event. At most events were did end up more teams showing up at the event.
We are looking for some input for next year's league. so if you have rule suggestions or lake suggestions please share your ideas and opinions with us. We will review all suggestions to see what we need to change that may encourage more teams to joing next year.
