Fishing has been slow on "The Trail" the last few weeks due to cold wet weather. After 3 very warm days the Mayfly hatch has begun. Hopefully after the hatch things will get back to normal.

Gunflint,

Thanks for the report. How have the bugs been up there lately? What time of the year do the bugs usually go away or at least let up?

The blackflies and gnats are gone for the most part. Mosquitos are still thick at the waters edge but easily taken care of with bug spray. The Mayflies will be getting thick for the next several days. At least there's no armyworms this year. ;)

After a sporatic start the fishing up the trail has improved greatly. The Mayfly hatch is over and the fish are hitting almost anything. Smallies are particularly aggressive. Lake Trout have been hitting pretty hard also. I haven't been fishing for northerns much but it's a safe bet that if there's one in the area it will attack your lure.

Walleyes, as usual are taking there own sweet time but have been turning on as well. They've been hitting aggresively at 12 to 16 fow and have started showing up in their old familiar places. They look fat and happy. Slow livebait presentaions are working best.

Thanks for the report Gunflint. I have been getting some questions from people vacationing in your area.
